This Is No Fantasy
005 - It is time to acknowledge my greatest disappointment about my experience with fantasy curling at the CurlingZone. It is not really a fantasy curling league. There is no construction of mythical curling teams. One cannot take the third from a Scottish squad, a second from a Swiss team, some random Canadian that cannot be found on Google and combine them all with a Japanese skip. There are no mock drafts and no trade deadlines. Heck, there are no trades! I am not part of some private league with four friends, two brothers, one friend of a brother, and some guy who was my cousin’s best man at his wedding and is still in the league even though my cousin stopped playing five years ago. This is a public pick’em league. A group of strangers and I look at the list of upcoming matches and try to pick the winners. Do not get me wrong, it is still curling, and that is extraordinary! The actual fantasy aspect of the experience is missing, however.
This leads me to the ultimate goal for this blog. Once I grow a sufficient number of followers, I will begin monetizing this site. This sudden influx of capital will allow me to hire some programmers and construct a true fantasy curling site. There will be private groups, drafts, substitutions, and trades. I envision an exciting mobile app and maybe cash in on the daily fantasy market that is about to bust. This may seem a little pie-in-the-sky, but there are no dreams too big for fantasy curling.
